In the Breastfeeding 101 class, soon-to-be parents will learn about the benefits of breastfeeding, what to expect in the first 2 weeks of breastfeeding, breastfeeding positions, and common misconceptions about breastfeeding. This is an interactive class, so please bring all of your questions about breastfeeding so that they can be addressed. Both parents are encouraged to attend.
Fee: $35 per couple, includes handouts

This is an interactive class, so please bring all of your questions about breastfeeding so that they can be addressed. Both parents are encouraged to attend.

In the Breastfeeding Class for Doulas, labor and postpartum doulas will advance their current knowledge about breastfeeding by learning new techniques and styles to better support their doula families. Topics will include biological nurturing and laid-back breastfeeding; getting breastfeeding off to a great start; common breastfeeding concerns and remedies; techniques for bottle feeding the breastfed baby; and holistic methods for preventing and treating breastfeeding concerns.

The Breastfeeding for the Working Mom class is for moms who plan to return to work, but would like to continue to provide breastmilk to their babies. Soon-to-be working moms will learn about pumping and storage guidelines, breast pumps and other pumping equipment, and legislation that protects the breastfeeding mother when she returns to work. Babies are welcome to attend the class. It's best to attend a few weeks before you return to work.

Ever wondered how a breastfeeding mom can keep up her milk supply after she returns to work? Are you looking for some new and improved pumping techniques? During this 1-hour workshop, we will spend 30 minutes learning about the top 5 reasons a mom's supply may decrease once she returns to work, tricks to maintain your milk supply, pumping techniques and schedules, and how much breast milk your baby truly needs while you are at work. The last 30 minutes will be spent answering YOUR questions about these issues. This class is appropriate for moms who are already back at work, as well as pregnant women looking for some strategies before they have their babies, and is for UCSD students and employees.

Spend time with other moms and babies. Learn and share valuable parenting advice. Find out how much breast milk your baby is getting with a pre- and post-feed weight. Latch, positioning, and other breastfeeding assistance will be offered by a registered lactation consultant. In addition to mother-to-mother conversation, a new topic will be discussed each week, ranging from infant sleep habits to going back to work.
The Mother’s Circle is led by Robin Kaplan, M.Ed., IBCLC, RLC, a registered lactation consultant and owner of the San Diego Breastfeeding Center.

Finding time to spend with other moms can be difficult once you return to work. Come spend some time with us, with your babies, and feel the camaraderie of your fellow moms. Bring your questions about anything having to do with breastfeeding and/or being a mom. This group is open to all mothers in the community and is facilitated by Robin Kaplan, an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant and founder of the San Diego Breastfeeding Center.
