Welcome to Baby's First Feeds, a prenatal chest/breastfeeding education class designed to prepare expectant parents for the important journey of nourishing their newborn through chest/breastfeeding. Created by experienced lactation consultant and owner of San Diego Breastfeeding Center, Robin Kaplan, this class offers essential information and practical skills to ensure a smooth and successful start to chest/breastfeeding.

In this comprehensive class, participants will explore the following key areas:

  • Chest/Breast Anatomy and Physiology: Gain insight into the anatomy and physiology of chest/breastfeeding, including the role of hormones, milk production, and the mechanics of milk let-down.

  • Latching Techniques: Explore proper latching techniques and positions. Understand how to achieve a deep latch to ensure effective milk transfer and prevent discomfort for both lactating parent and baby.

  • Feeding Cues and Timing: Recognize the early feeding cues of your newborn and understand the importance of feeding on demand in establishing a healthy chest/breastfeeding relationship.

  • Overcoming Challenges: Equip yourself with strategies to overcome common chest/breastfeeding challenges such as engorgement, nipple soreness, and latch difficulties. Learn when and how to seek help from a lactation consultant or healthcare provider.

  • Supplementation: Learn how, when, and why you may need to supplement if you are experiencing chest/breastfeeding challenges.

  • Partner Involvement: Discover the crucial role partners play in supporting chest/breastfeeding parents. Learn how partners can provide practical assistance, emotional support, and encouragement throughout the chest/breastfeeding journey.

  • Preparing for Baby's Arrival: Learn how to prepare yourself and your environment for chest/breastfeeding success before your baby's arrival. Discover the importance of establishing a supportive network and setting realistic expectations.

Join us for Baby's First Feeds and embark on your chest/breastfeeding journey with confidence and preparedness. Together, we'll lay the groundwork for a nurturing and fulfilling chest/breastfeeding experience that sets the stage for a strong bond between you and your baby.
