Part-Time IBCLC

The San Diego Breastfeeding Center is currently hiring a part-time IBCLC.  Applicants must be available to work at least 3 days a week, either in-office or for in-home visits, starting on March 31, 2025. 

This is a fast-paced, dynamic job with lots of opportunity to use your lactation skills in diverse and innovative ways.  As a private practice lactation office, we are able to build meaningful relationships with our families, providing continuity of care throughout their lactating journeys.

Major Areas of Responsibility:

  • Provide direct lactation services to pregnant and chest/breastfeeding clients in the Center, by telephone, by video, and/or during home visits

  • Provide direct assessment, planning, intervening, and evaluating of lactation service

  • Responsible for client documentation 

  • Responsible for sending consultation reports within forty-eight (48) hours to pediatricians.

  • Responsible for follow-up activities related to lactation consultation services including responding to emails from patients within twenty-four (24) hours

  • Attend monthly staff meetings

  • Attend events hosted by SDBFC, as well as events hosted by other community members, when available. 

  • Work closely with other consultants on the above and a wide range of other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

  • Must be available to start a six-week paid training in the SDBFC clinic on March 31, 2025.

  • Certification from and good-standing with the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners.

  • Proficient in reading and writing in English; Spanish-speaking a plus

  • Ability to integrate observation, knowledge, and skills in assessing parents and children in developing individualized chest/breastfeeding management strategies

  • Ability to understand oral and written directives regarding patient care

  • Strong computer proficiency, especially with Google Drive, Google Docs, and Google Spreadsheets and online charting systems

  • Strong planning and organizational skills, attention to detail, and strong client service skills

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple cases

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including communication with potential and existing clients, and developing new and existing client relationships

Pay rate: Salary starts at $50/client hour; 3 days or more per week

Start Date: Training starts March 31, 2025
