Part-Time IBCLC

The San Diego Breastfeeding Center is currently hiring a part-time IBCLC.  Applicants must be available to work at least 3 days a week, either in-office or for in-home visits, starting on April 21, 2025.

Major Areas of Responsibility:

  • Provide direct lactation services to pregnant and lactating clients in the Center, by telehealth, and/or during home visits

  • Provide direct assessment, planning, intervening, and evaluating of lactation service

  • Responsible for client documentation 

  • Create individualized care plans and communicate effectively with families and healthcare providers.

  • Responsible for follow-up activities related to lactation consultation services including responding to emails from patients within twenty-four (24) hours

  • Collaborate with other consultants and attending monthly staff meetings and community events

  • Stay current on lactation and perinatal health best practices through continuing education.

Job Requirements

  • Must be available to start a six-week paid training in the SDBFC clinic on April 21, 2025.

  • Certification from and good-standing with the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners.

  • At least 1 year of clinical lactation consulting experience preferred (newly certified IBCLCs are welcome to apply!).

  • Proficient in reading and writing in English; Spanish-speaking a plus

  • Ability to integrate observation, knowledge, and skills in assessing parents and children in developing individualized chest/breastfeeding management strategies

  • Ability to understand oral and written directives regarding patient care

  • Strong computer proficiency, especially with Google Drive, Google Docs, and Google Spreadsheets and online charting systems

  • Strong planning and organizational skills, attention to detail, and strong client service skills

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple cases

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including communication with potential and existing clients, and developing new and existing client relationships

  • Team mindset - valuing compassion, approachability, and strong communication

Pay rate: Compensation commensurate with experience

Start Date: Training starts April 21, 2025
